A 120-year-old bungalow carefully restored for contemporary living
Preserving the details
Basel mission tiles, Madras and Malnad roofs, wooden elements, cornices, mouldings, panelled doors and arched openings were retained or carefully replicated.
Traditional techniques, thoughtfully applied
The new structure uses lime mortar, load-bearing walls and reclaimed timber. Around 80% of the wood was sourced from demolished buildings, including a 150-year-old heritage bungalow.
Bringing old and new together
The restored and new sections were carefully integrated while maintaining structural independence. Seven junctions were detailed to create continuity between the two structures.
A considered approach to restoration
Lime-based finishes, reclaimed timber and retained heritage materials reinforce the project's conservation-led approach. The original well was also retained and integrated into the landscape.
